Whether you are an experienced hunter looking to upgrade or add to your stock of equipment or are a relative newcomer who has only been on a handful of hunts, a look in the hunting proshop can leave you a little breathless. Here, we give our top three investments that you really can’t do without. And don’t worry, there’s plenty of time to accessorize with all the rest later!

Guns and ammo

Fairly obviously, you will not have much success with the whitetail deer without a weapon. But choosing a rifle is only the start of it, you also need to ensure it is set up right to achieve the best results. For example, take your time choosing the right rifle scope, and weigh up all the options, as there is plenty of choice out there.

As the old saying goes, look after your gun and your gun will look after you, so remember to buy a good quality gun cleaning kit too.

Boots

You will be spending plenty of time on your feet, and even at a private preserve like White Tree Ranch, the terrain can change rapidly and the whitetail deer can lead you quite a dance. A good pair of boots is important, and if you opt for quality ahead of price, they will prove to be an investment that will last you for years.

Avoid buying online, you really need to try them on and have a walk around in them to know what is right for you. Find something waterproof and pay attention to the weight. Also, make sure you are wearing your hunting socks when you try them on, or you will be in for an unpleasant surprise when you wear them for real!

Camouflage gear

Turn out in a bright red t-shirt and you will come back empty handed – you won’t win many friends in your circle of fellow hunters, either. The good news is that a decent set of camo will last you for years. Tech is advancing the field of hunting rapidly, and there are now over 50 different types of camo available on the market. However, you do of course need to make sure the camo matches the terrain, so choose wisely. No Operation Desert Storm here!

Ready to go

Rifle, check. Boots, check. Camo, check. That’s it, you are ready to go! There is plenty more gear you can buy along the way, but for now, let’s get out there and have a great day of hunting.
