For whitetail archery hunting enthusiasts, there really are only two seasons: bow season and the rest of the year. For most of us, those few short months in which we can go after world class whitetails with stick and string are all too short.

There are a number of things that go into successfully hunting world class whitetails. You need to be able to shoot, of course. You need to know how to recognize deer sign. First, though, you need a general idea of where world class whitetails can be found. It doesn’t matter that you can hit the bullseye from seventy yards out if you never see a trophy deer. Your chances of ever seeing, much less harvesting, world class whitetails improves dramatically if you know where to find them.

Every year, a few hunters get lucky and just happen to be in the right place at the right time to take a truly memorable buck. Have you ever noticed, though, that most of the hunters who succeed at whitetail archery hunting tend to bag and tag world class whitetails year after year? Hunters who succeed year after year have learned a secret that holds true in both whitetail archery hunting and in business: The three most important things are location, location, and location.

Of course, finding a great location for world class whitetails isn’t easy. It takes a lot of work. For truly world class whitetails, it also takes a lot of management. The kinds of bucks that make the record books get as big as they do because of what they eat. That means managing food plots. To do that, you have to own the land, of course. You also need to know how to do it (most people, even great outdoorsmen, don’t) and you have to put the time into it.

Another option for hunting world class whitetails (and the most practical option for most hunters) is to go whitetail archery hunting with a guide on a dedicated ranch. A well managed whitetail ranch will have expert guides who know the lay of the land and where to find the deer. It will also include managed food plots which help produce true world class whitetails.

We all love whitetail archery hunting. If you’re like most bow hunters, though, you don’t have the time or the resources to go out and find and maintain hunting land the way it needs to be maintained to grow record book bucks. You can trust to luck, of course, and that will likely lead to a lot of great times in the Great Outdoors. It won’t likely lead to harvesting a record book buck. When it’s time to get serious about whitetail archery hunting and you want to go after the big racks, it’s worth the investment to go on a guided hunt on a quality game ranch.
